DB1 Embryofreeze - The Ultimate Embryo Freezer

p1

Concept

The DB1 Embryofreeze has been developed to meet the requirements of specialists working in both human and veterinary embtryo transfer. This cost effective portable freezer can be used in most locations with it's own internal battery and is easy to program and use, with a throughput of up to 100 straws per cycle.

Display

The DB1 uses a graphical screen, which shows information pertaining to the functions being used and provides prompts to guide the uder. Each screen has a heading, a clock, battery status bar and button labels across the bottom.

Design

The DB1 Embryofreeze is a "solid state" design without moving components. There are no solenoid valves, pumps or motors to freeze or jam. The straw plate is precisely controlled and the temperature is balanced against the cold liquid nitrogen chamber.

Maintenance

The DB1 has been designed to operate in poor conditions and day to day only needs simple maintenance. The freezer comes with a 12 month warranty and service contracts are available.
Each machine is supplied with full documentation and CE approval.

Display Functions

When a program is running the screen displays all the necessary information to inform the user of correct performance.

The button functions and the associated labels change from screen providing an easy user interface, eliminating over-complicated key pads.

Programs

The DB1 Embryofreeze can store up to 8 programs each containing up to 8 lines. Individual programs can be password protected to prevent unauthorised editing or use. Program options are for temperature rate from 0.1°C to 5.0°C per minute, timed hold from 1 to 99 minutes, indefinite pause, freefall (maximum possible rate of temperature change) and program end.

Operating Security

To ensure best possible embryo survival, the unit has various safety features. If the liquid nitrogen resevoir is filled, the freezer automatically switches on, preventing unnecessary cooling of the straw chamber. A low liquid nitrogen warning system operates. The freezer cannot be switched off when running a program until the program has finished, or has been stopped and the straws removed.

Sterilising

The DB1 Embryofreeze has a temperature range of 170°C to -100°C. The freezer has a sterilising program designed to hold the straw plate temperature at 125°C for 30 minutes. As with all of the supplied programs, this can be changed to suit individual requirements. This is unique to the DB1.

Portability

The DB1 has been designed with portable use in mind. The controlled-rate freezer will operate on power supplies from 80 to 260 volts AC or on 12 volts DC including its own internal, rechargeable battery.

The battery can run freezing programs up to 3 hours long without need of recharging. If, however, a longer running time is required a second battery can be added to double the expected running time.

The case is moulded in a composite material and has an integral carrying handle. The handle is in the centre of the freezer and the freezer is balanced to allow easy carrying with only one hand.

Record Keeping

The DB1 Embryofreeze includes automatic data logging of all freezer runs. At the end of each run a list of the last 8 freeze runs is presented with the last one at the top. The user has the choice of printing details and a graph or sending the log file to a computer or terminal.

The log files can be accessed as many times as needed. The printout is to a standard Hewlett-Packard compatible printer and lists the program’s details, date and time, any alarms, user defined fields and a graph of the recorded actual temperature. The DB1 printout uses full size paper (A4 or letter).

The DB1 provides cost effective and reliable embryo freezing. The innovative design is the result of Biotronics’ many years experience in the fields of embryology and cryopreservation.
